KindKorea: An inclusive platform for volunteering in Korea

Discover volunteer opportunities in Korea with an accessible, user-friendly platform.

Finding volunteer opportunities in Korea as a foreigner can be challenging, as most platforms and resources are only available in Korean. There is currently no centralized platform in English that allows non-Korean speakers to easily discover, browse, and apply for volunteer work. To bridge this gap, we developed an app that helps both foreigners and locals find meaningful volunteer opportunities in Korea. The app provides a clear, accessible, and user-friendly experience, ensuring that everyone, regardless of language barriers, can contribute to the community.

Challenges

A major challenge was the lack of an English-based volunteer platform in Korea, making it difficult for foreigners to find opportunities. We focused on accurate translations and a user-friendly experience to bridge this gap. Another challenge was organizing opportunities effectively. With varying locations, types, and schedules, we designed an intuitive filtering system to help users quickly find relevant volunteer work.

Key Features

The app allows users to browse volunteer opportunities, view detailed listings with role descriptions and requirements, and explore organization profiles. Smart filters help narrow searches by location, activity type, and availability, ensuring a perfect match. With multi-language support, users can easily switch to their preferred language for a seamless experience.

Visual design

For the design, we focused on creating a welcoming and community-driven aesthetic. The interface features a bright green color, symbolizing growth, connection, and community impact. The typography choice, Phone DM Sans, reinforces a friendly and approachable feel with its rounded edges, making the experience more inviting for users.

Outcome

By launching this app, we have created the first English-friendly platform for volunteer opportunities in Korea. Foreigners who previously struggled to find ways to contribute can now seamlessly discover and join volunteer initiatives, fostering deeper connections between international residents and local communities.

  • Increased accessibility – Non-Korean speakers can now easily find and apply for volunteer work.
  • Stronger community engagement – The app encourages both locals and foreigners to participate in meaningful social impact projects.
  • Simplified user experience – Clear navigation, structured information, and language support make it effortless for users to get involved.

This project is more than just an app—it’s a step toward a more inclusive and connected volunteer community in Korea.
