Revamping a global dating community for Asians abroad

A successful relaunch of a dating app connecting Asian expats across key U.S. cities

KRUSH is a dating community app designed specifically for Asians living abroad. Targeting major cities in the U.S. like New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco, the platform aims to connect people by their shared interests and preferences. I took over the project from a previous agency, refactored the code, and successfully launched the app.

Key Features & Product Characteristics

  • User Matching System: The app boasts an advanced algorithm that uses facial recognition, interests, and personal preferences to match users with great precision.
  • Offline Meetups: KRUSH enables users to create and join small offline events, bringing the virtual connections to real-world interactions tailored to American trends.
  • Anonymous Forums: The app also features anonymous forums where users can communicate freely, encouraging authentic discussions.

Challenges

The original codebase, developed by an offshore agency in Pakistan, had serious inefficiencies and low-quality structures. Refactoring the code posed substantial challenges, particularly with optimizing the underlying architecture to meet the platform's scaling needs and functionality.

Development process

We took over the project, refactored the inefficient code, implemented key features like user matching, anonymous forums, and offline meetups, validated through QA, and successfully launched the app.

The outcome

The successful launch of KRUSH marked the end of a complicated refactoring process, and it set the platform up for a smooth and sustainable user experience. Users in the U.S. now enjoy a robust app designed for meaningful, community-based connections.
